Biography
La Dame Designs: Holly Miller
I have always enjoyed sharing my personal expression of beauty. Starting at an early age, I carved designs into my bedroom dresser believing my flair added so much more to the overall design. I was recreating Picasso paintings by the age of ten. I was a self-proclaimed art nerd throughout middle and high school. When it was time to go to college, I allowed society’s standards to push me into a more ‘appropriate’ major, and my relationship with art quickly faded.
Throughout my life, I took on many different jobs within a career of wellness (healing arts counts as art, right??), but I always struggled with this sense that what I was doing still had something missing.
While I was managing and teaching at a boutique spin studio, one of my friends and clients invited me to create a painting for a Gabriel’s Angels charity event to raise money for their mission, inspiring confidence, compassion, and best behaviors in at-risk children through pet therapy.
As soon as my brush touched the canvas, my love was restored! I knew I could not let painting escape my life again!
I have had the opportunity to paint commissioned work for clients thrilled with their finished paintings. I have assisted with logo and brand design. During Covid, I became a creative director and producer for The Spin Junkie, an online fitness platform.
My goal is to thrive as an artist and to share my talent and creativity with as many people as possible. I am working on an upcoming project to educate others on how to utilize art forms as a way to reduce stress.
I am open to commission requests, collaborations, murals, photography, and any other artistic endeavors.
La Dame Designs, Capturing the Essence: Exploring Life Sciences and the Human Form through Art
As an artist, I find my truest sense of happiness when I immerse myself in the act of creation – whether it's the stroke of a brush on canvas, the meticulous detailing of a pencil sketch, or the intricate manipulation of digital tools. This profound joy that accompanies the process of drawing and painting is where my journey begins.
My artistic endeavors are fueled by a deep-seated appreciation for life sciences and the exquisite beauty found within the diverse manifestations of the human form. Each curve, contour, and intricate detail holds a story waiting to be unveiled. It is within these stories that I discover my purpose – to bridge the gap between art and science, and to illuminate the profound connections that exist between the physical and the metaphysical.
My ultimate aspiration is to attain a Master's degree in medical illustration, a path that aligns seamlessly with my vision. I see myself as a visual storyteller, a conduit through which the intricacies of the human form and its environment can be narrated with both scientific accuracy and artistic finesse. This endeavor is not solely a personal ambition; it's a testament to the profound relationship that exists between art and our understanding of the human experience.
In my creative exploration, I encompass a wide array of mediums – from the traditional elegance of paintings to the intricate precision of drawings, all the way to the dynamic possibilities offered by digital illustration. This diverse range of mediums allows me to express the depth of my fascination with the subject matter, conveying its complexity through different artistic lenses.
My influences are as diverse as the mediums I employ. Drawing inspiration from luminaries like Caravaggio, whose mastery of light and shadow lends depth to his subjects, to Ernst Haeckel, whose scientific illustrations encapsulate the sheer diversity of life forms, and finally to Alex Grey, who delves into the spiritual aspects of the human experience – these artists guide my creative evolution.
Central to my work is the belief that we are not merely physical entities, but spiritual beings embarking on a profound human journey. This perspective infuses my art with a deeper purpose, allowing me to celebrate this belief through visual representation. By crafting artworks that mirror the interplay between our ethereal selves and the tangible world, I strive to encapsulate the essence of existence itself.
In essence, my art is an ongoing exploration of the delicate dance between science and spirituality, a journey where the human form serves as a canvas for narratives that transcend the physical realm. Through this artistic voyage, I aspire to refine my skills as a visual storyteller, capturing the intricate threads that weave together the human experience and the world that envelops us.
